    John Campbell (1855-1924) was a scenic painter who migrated to Australia from Scotland in early 1880s. Linnwood House was built in 1891 by George McCredie (1859-1903), a prominent businessman of the day, Mayor of Holroyd, and Independent member for the State seat of Central Cumberland.

    The owner of this property, George McCredie (1859-1903) was connected with the Rocks Plague of 1900. Two months after plague broke out on 19 January 1900, McCredie was appointed to take charge of all quarantine activities in the Sydney area.

  • Collection history
    Original owner, Jean Appleton, N.S.W., sold the work to a private collection in the ACT and it remained in the family until sale by Sotheby's Australia.
