    Joseph Palmer (1841-1930) established his stockbroking business in Sydney on 13 April 1872 and joined the Sydney Stock Exchange. His business flourished, sustained by a major mining boom in New South Wales, and from 1890 he took his sons into partnership. Joseph Palmer & Sons remains a family business and is the second-oldest surviving stockbroking firm in Sydney.

    Leather bound trading ledger of the Sydney stockbroking firm Joseph Palmer & Sons, from its establishment in April 1872 until 1882. The ledger details the trading accounts of the firm and the trading history of several hundred individual and corporate clients.
