The Bloodworths were descended from James Bloodsworth or Bloodworth, a convict who arrived on the First Fleet on a seven year sentence for theft. In the mid 19th century members of the Bloodworth family settled in the Coonamble district as station holders, sheep farmers and graziers. The Bloodworths were related to the Howe family through the marriage of Robert Howe (grandson of George Howe,first publisher of the Sydney Gazette) to Sarah Bloodworth.

The letters were given to Carey Andrews by her aunt, Norma Cummings nee Howe. In 2015 Carey Andrews gave these letters to Joy Jorgensen.
