Leslie Gilliat worked in the film industry in the United Kingdom from the 1930s until the 1980s. He began his career as a camera operator and went on to become a film producer. He travelled to Sydney with his family to work on the film 'Smiley Gets A Gun', which was made at Pagewood Studios in Sydney in 1957.

- Scope and Content75, 35mm colour transparencies of Sydney and surrounding areas, 1957. The slides document Leslie Gilliat’s work on the film 'Smiley gets a gun' and includes images taken at a number of Sydney beaches including Coogee, Bondi, Bronte and Manly. Images depict large crowds sunbathing and swimming, and include images of a Surf Life Saving club event. The collection also includes views of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, a ferry trip across Sydney Harbour, the Blue Mountains, the Eastern suburbs and the Spit Bridge.
