- Scope and ContentSir Joseph Banks occasionally penned satirical verse often reflectingsocial and political change. The verses in this series were mostprobably written during the years 1806 and 1807 after the deathof William Pitt in January 1806, and the fall of the Grenvilleadministration in March 1807. They reflect issues in Banks wasdeeply involved such as the controversial issue of fen drainagein Lincolnshire.

This series was previously located at ML A80-2. It was purchasedin 1884 from Lord Brabourne by Sir Saul Samuel, the Agent-Generalfor New South Wales, and transferred to the Mitchell Library in1910. It was part of the accession which became known as the Brabournecollection. - Subject
