    David Sulman Carment AM (1949- ) was born in Sydney, Australia. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in History from the University of New South Wales in 1972 and a PhD in History from ANU in 1975. He worked as a university lecturer in the areas of Australian and modern European history since 1975 and is an accomplished academic author. His most recent lecturing position before retirement was that of Emeritus Professor of History, Charles Darwin University.

    Professor Carment was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2003 for 'service to the community, particularly through the National Trust of Australia, as an advocate for the protection of Northern Territory cultural heritage, and to the scholarship and dissemination of knowledge of Northern Territory history.' He is a descendant of Sir John Sulman and donated the Sulman papers to the State Library of New South Wales in 2008.

    This collection contains the born-digital manuscripts contains original research by academic and Sulman descendent David Carment relating to the family and descendants of Sir John Sulman. This collection is intended to complement the Sulman papers presented to the Library in 2008.
