  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Albert Henry Fullwood (1863-1930) was born in Birmingham, England and studied art before migrating to Sydney in 1883. A year later he joined the Art Society of New South Wales and shortly afterwards obtained a position on the staff of the Picturesque Atlas of Australia where he completed many illustrations. This illustration was produced for the Picturesque atlas of Australasia (1886) where it appears in Vol.3 page 747 under the entry for the mining industry. The Atlas contains over 700 illustrations that were specially commissioned works by leading Australian artists including Fulwood.

  • Scope and Content
    Comprises four vignettes sketched in pencil and painted with gouache on one sheet paper, of coal miners working above and below ground at the colliery in Wallsend, New South Wales.
