    Artist Charles F. Gerrard was a known artist in Sydney during the 1880s-1890s, specialising in ‘marine’ paintings, coastal scenes and ships. He exhibited his first works with the Royal Art Society in 1884.

    This painting was originally an ‘Art Prize’ given to photographer William Anthony (Tony) Maston’s mother Clara Louise Maston nee Taylor, probably in 1890s. It was given to the donor by William Maston in 1980.
  • Scope and Content
    View harbour looking out to South Head, from a vantage point near Manly, with dense foliage and bush in the foreground and along Middle Head, with a variety of ships, yachts and a rowing boat.
