Carlotta McIntosh was a journalist who produced reports for ABC Radio from South East Asia, and was a staff reporter on the Illawarra Mercury, Fairfax Community Newspapers and the Tribune.
The Sydney suburb of Pyrmont is one of Australia’s most densely populated suburbs and was once a vital component of Sydney's industrial waterfront, with wharves, shipbuilding yards, factories and wool stores. The working class houses on Scott street were earmarked for high rise residential redevelopments and in 1978 the tenants were evicted in the face of the proposed demolition. Squatters moved into these houses soon after, and remained there until 1994 when they were all rehoused by the Department of Housing and the buildings handed over to City West. The 'Pyrmont Squat' was one of the longest lived and most well-documented Sydney squats. Residents included Toby Zoates (William Arthur Tobin 1946- ) who lived at 6 Scott St from 1979 to 1990, where he wrote and illustrated student newspapers and made films.
