  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The convict transport Minerva sailed from Cork on 24 August 1799 and arrived in Sydney on 11 January 1800. A total of 191 convicts were embarked comprising 165 men and 26 women. Four different lists of these convicts have survived: Captain Salkeld’s list in the ship’s log listing the convicts in order of embarkation; Indent No. 1, listing the convicts by profession; Indent No. 2, listing the convicts alphabetically by Irish County; Surgeon John Washington Price’s alphabetical list in his journal.

  • Scope and Content
One spiral-bound volume containing the four convict lists compiled by Pamel Fulton. Accompanied by a nineteen page introduction derived from Fulton's thesis.

Fulton has combined the four lists, all created for different purposes and all differently ordered, into one single list. There are a number of differences in the spelling of the convicts’ names and their ages. In some cases they are given different Christian names, different occupations and different places of trial. Also their crimes and other relevant information (eg. religion and date of death during the voyage) appear in some lists and not others.
