  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Justice James Wood was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW in 1964. He was called to the bar in 1970 and subsequently became a Queen’s Counsel. He was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of NSW in 1984 and became the Chief Judge at Common Law in 1984 before retiring in 2005. He served as chairman of the Law Reform Commission of NSW between 1982 and 1984. In 1985 he headed the judicial enquiry into the Hilton Bombing. He also served as a royal commissioner in the NSW Police Royal Commission.
    He is currently the chairman of both the NSW Law Reform Commission and the NSW Sentencing Council. In 2008 he released the Report of the Special Commission of Inquiry into Child Protection Services in NSW.
