William Whaley Billyard (1815-1903), landowner and lawyer, arrived in Sydney with his wife and family in 1846. He worked as a solicitor and in 1853-1854 built ‘Kirketon’ a mansion in Darlinghurst Road. In 1848 he bought land from John Glade and subsequently subdivided and sold the land in November 1855, naming it Gladesville.

Allan Campbell (1815?-1895) was a respected medical practitioner in the Yass region. He owned land in the area having already built a colonial Georgian house named Fifield in 1859 before buying land from Billyard in 1862.

Samuel Terry (1776?-1838) was transported to Australia as a convict in 1801. After 1807 when his term had been served he became a wealthy landowner, merchant and philanthropist. Between 1817 and 1820 he held more than a fifth of the total value of mortgages registered in the colony.
