On 1 October 1929 The Sun Newspapers Limited merged with S. Bennett Ltd to become Associated Newspapers Ltd. In January 1930 Associated Newspapers purchased the Daily and Sunday Guardian from Smith's Newspapers Ltd and In February of the same year the company acquired the remaining shares in Daily Telegraph Pictorial Ltd.
