  • Scope and Content
    The Editorial Manager played a major role in industrial relations and negotiations with the Chapel and Australian Journalists Association. The 54 files in this sub-series cover a number of awards and agreements including the Blackburn Award, 1955, rejecting claims for variations in conditions but making substantial changes to salaries; The agreement between AJA and Sydney proprietors in 1958 increasing salaries for certain grades of journalists and for photographers; The 1959 Award where Commissioner Portus increased AJA margins on application by 17.4% but the proprietors' appeal was allowed; Variations to the award in 1960. These variations granted on condition that the 1958 agreement was extended for two years; Variations made by Commissioner Portus in 1962; Agreement was made in 1963 to give increases various grades; In 1965 the court awarded an increase in margins equal to 1.5% of the total wage
