    Rosemary Kariuki-Fyfe (b. 1960) grew up on a working farm in a small village in Kenya, attending primary school and then boarding school. She moved to the city following her marriage in 1982 and had three children, but returned to her village after ten years. In 1999, after problems with theft from her business, she migrated to Australia, later applying for asylum and bringing her children to Australia on student visas. After working in a variety of permanent and temporary positions, primarily in office administration, she is currently employed as a Mulicultural Community Liaison Officer with the New South Wales Police Force.

  • Scope and Content
    Rosemary Kariuki-Fyfe describes life in her village in Kenya as part of a large family on a working farm, her desire to escape the usual fate of village girls and her reasons for moving to Australia. She speaks of her experiences on her arrival in Sydney, the different areas she lived and worked in, and how her various jobs and community work have given her the knowledge and skills for her current position.
