He obtained a Bachelor of Education and worked as a teacher. With the invasion of rebels from the east, who were targeting active members of political parties, Kisimba, with his wife and two children, fled the country. They stayed in a refugee camp in Botswana, applying through UNHRC to come to Australia, where he has since studied to become a social worker and is currently a student support officer at Western Sydney University.
