    Rim Jezan was born in Iran. Her family, as followers of Mandaeism, suffered persecution and eventually fled to Malaysia. They arrived in Australia by boat as asylum seekers, spending years in a detention centre before their release. Jezan worked as a migration agent while studying Law at Western Sydney University.
