This mixed collection contains manuscript material as well as photoprints, negatives, glass negatives, a camera, sound recordings and videos. The manuscript material includes letters, drafts for reviews and articles and note books. In addition there are newscuttings, Dupain’s own copies of journals containing articles by or about him and catalogues of his exhibitions. This wealth of textual material provides useful biographical information as well as information about his ideas and theories regarding photography. It is supported by five video recordings of television interviews with Dupain and 15 sound recordings.

The camera has particular significance because the donor believes it was one of the cameras Dupain used for his Culburra photographs which included the famous “Sunbaker.”

This collection is rounded out by the inclusion of a small number of examples of Dupain’s commercial work in the form of photoprints, negatives and glass negatives. These appear to have come from the Max Dupain and Associates commercial archive. They do not include any of Dupain’s iconic images. The collection also includes 14 prints made from war photographer Damien Parer’s negatives.
