  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Chislehurst, in Centennial Ave, Chatswood, was a two-storey Tudor-style house built in 1892 by John de Villiers Lamb (1833-1900) who named it Mooroombah.

Edward Carr Hordern (1853-1940) was the grandson of Anthony Hordern II, of the retailing dynasty Anthony Hordern & Sons. Edward Carr Hordern bought 'Chislehurst' in 1905, and named it 'Chislehurst' after his wife’s home in England. During this time he made additions, including a billiard room, a ballroom, hothouse, a lift and stained glass windows.
