Dr Neil James is an academic, writer and oral historian, and a regular speaker about language and workplace communication. He received the 2018 State Library of New South Wales Nancy Keesing Fellowship for the project 'The A&R Century: A History of Angus & Robertson'. These oral history interviews, undertaken as part of his Angus & Robinson Oral History Collection, supplement his earlier interviews with 25 former Angus & Robertson employees.

Angus & Robertson, publishers and booksellers, played a pivotal role in the history of publishing in Australia. Founded in 1886 by David Angus and George Robertson, the company published many titles by Australian authors, developing a uniquely Australian literature, while also operating successful bookselling and printing divisions.
