  • Scope and Content
Architect Alec Tzannes talks about his working relationship with domestic and commercial clients and on particular projects, such as John Symond’s private house in Point Piper (2006) and the new timber-framed International House in Barangaroo (2017), both in Sydney. He shares his thoughts on sustainable design and why materials are important, and his experience in designing street furniture for the City of Sydney in 2012. He talks about balancing his role of Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment at UNSW with heading a busy architectural practice, and talks of the changes he made to the university syllabus, including funding for new Chairs and improving communication between the academic and commercial worlds. The interview concludes with his thoughts on the importance of beauty, and his liking for drawing by hand.
