'Markdale', a 2551-hectare sheep and grazing property in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, was purchased by James Ashton in 1920. His four sons James, Robert, Geoffrey and Philip ran the property, with Geoffrey commissioning the main house design by Lesley Wilkinson and garden design by Edna Walling. It is the only known collaboration of Wilkinson and Walling on the one estate. Geoffrey's son, also named Geoffrey, and his wife Mary took over the property in 1984. It was sold in 2017 with the house and garden remaining intact.
