  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    William Broughton (1768-1821) was a public servant, magistrate and settler from Chatham, Kent, England. He came to New South Wales on the First Fleet as a servant to Surgeon John White. In 1789 he was appointed store-keeper at Parramatta, and in 1801 he became the deputy commissary of stores in New South Wales.

    Bound collection of correspondence and papers by, to, and relating to, William Broughton, Deputy Assistant Commisary General, New South Wales, 25 May 1815 to 3 May 1821.
    Also contains papers subsequent to Broughton's death e.g. release from John Dickson to his executors and letters to his wife, Mrs Eliza Broughton, from T. C. Harington.
