Dorothy Mabel 'Dot' Strong was born in northern New South Wales in 1932 and grew up on a farm outside Dubbo. After the end of her marriage, Dot travelled to Sydney where she worked as a tea lady at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for eighteen years.
