    Jean Lloyd Stevenson was born 27 June 1903 in Carlton, Victoria and died 20 July 1974 Manly, New South Wales. She was a poet and friend of Dame Mary Gilmore, and worked as typist, stenographer and general clerk. Jean received an honourable mention in an essay competition. 'Mary Gilmore: Dreamer and Doer', through the Henry Lawson Memorial and Literary Society in Melbourne, in 1939. Her poem 'Australia Fair' was entered in the National Song Contest. She wrote an abridged edition of editorial correspondence titled 'Oh, this Writing Game!' which was published in the journal Bohemia at the outbreak of war.

    Prior to joining the Commonwealth Public Service on 31 March 1930, Jean held positions as typist at Australian Red Cross Society Victorian Branch, Housewives Association Victorian Division, and Congregational Union of Victoria. In 1934, she received a promotion at the Australian Forestry School Canberra. During the war she worked as a typist in the Defence Department and Rationing Commission, Melbourne. After the war, she transferred to Sydney as typist at Department of Post War Reconstruction, and later held positions as Secretary to Judge Kirby in the Arbitration Court and typist at the Office of Education. She was also Secretary to the Deputy Director, Marine Branch, Department of Shipping and Transport, Sydney. She transferred to R.A.A.F Headquarters, Glenbrook as stenographer after acquiring a cottage at Woodford. She retired from public service in 1957.
