    H. E. L. Priday was born in England. After serving in the British Army in World War I he moved to New Zealand. He returned to England in 1924. During World War II he served in the South Pacific. After the war he worked for the ABC in Sydney. He was the author of a number of books about the Pacific region including 'Cannibal Island' (1944) and 'The War from Coconut Square' (1945).

    Folder 1: 16 letters from Lewis Priday to Paule Irwin, typescript and manuscript, 1964-1967.

    Folder 2: Story for film script by Lewis Priday, ‘Madame Vermast’s Nickel Mine’, typescript with manuscript corrections, 12 pages; accompanied by a letter of rejection from Individual Pictures Limited, 24 January 1949.

    Folder 3: Draft of ‘The Rue Monge Murder’, typescript with manuscript corrections, 235 pages.

    Folder 4: General information and newspaper clippings regarding New Caledonia, typescript, manuscript, printed material, photograph of Admiral Thierry d’Argenlieu, compiled ca. 1980-ca. 1981 (some items are in French).

    Bound draft of ‘Stern and Wild : The Story of New Caledonia and the New Hebrides in the Age of John Higginson’, typescript with manuscript corrections and additions, approximately 500 pages, ca. 1960s.
