Cleveland Publishing Company Pty Ltd was founded by Jack Atkins in 1953 as one of many publishing houses catering to the Australian public's demand for affordable reading material. Cleveland Publishing specialised in Westerns, and also published crime fiction, as well as war and romance fiction.
The Larry Kent Detective series was originally created by Ron Ingleby for Australian radio in the 1950s. Cleveland Publishers bought the publishing rights in April 1954, and the first series of monthly novelettes appeared later that year. Artist Walter Stackpool produced illustrations for Larry Kent Detective series between 1956-1971. Around 100 novelettes and more than 300 novels in the Larry Kent series were published.
In 2018, Cleveland Publishing announced that it would be closing down and made available for sale many of the original artworks used to produce covers for a variety of westerns, romance and detective pulp fiction books.

This collection comprises original artwork produced for the Larry Kent Detective series, with some works by artist Walter Stackpool. It also includes artworks by Rose Wittman who worked for Cleveland Publishing from 1954 -1995.
