  • General note

The illustrations are for a number of Bronwyn Bancroft’s children’s publications, 2001-2010: Sun Mother Wakes the World (2004); Ready to Dream (2009); Sam’s Bush Journey (2010); and a Counting Book created for La Perouse School (2001). The re-telling of the Sun Mother story is based on a traditional Aboriginal creation story which appeared in Myths and Legends of Australian Aboriginals (published by Ramsay Smith, based on stories gathered by David Unaipon). The other stories describe journeys through the landscape, reflecting Indigenous culture and storytelling. In Sam’s Bush Journey, a boy learns to appreciate the importance of the landscape and traditional Indigenous stories through his Aboriginal grandmother. In Ready to Dream, an Indigenous artist shares her inspiration and practice.
