  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Henry (Harry) James Hazelwood, grandfather of Donald Hazelwood, was born in Wagga Wagga in 1868. He married Hellen Steer and they had three sons, Fred, Leslie and Claud. Henry worked on the sheep station, Mohonga, and eventually became the owner of the homestead block on Urangeline Station.

    Frederick (Fred) Henry Hazelwood served with the Australian Imperial Force in WWI. On his return to Australia, he was granted a block adjoining Urangeline called Little Plain, Urana under the Soldiers Settlement Scheme.

    Leslie Hazelwood (1901-1947), father of Donald Hazelwood, was born on Mohonga Station. He married Emily Harris in 1925.

    Claud Hazelwood (b. 1912) worked on both farms, Urangeline and Little Plain, with his brothers. He was also a keen photographer. He had no offspring.

    Certificate from Apothecaries Hall Dublin, qualifying James Hazelwood to be apprenticed to the Business of an Apothecary, 1808 (in mount).
    Certificate from St Peter’s and St Bridget’s Hospital, Dublin, certifying that James Hazlewood (sic) attended the Medical and Surgical Practice, 1810-1811 (in mount).
    Certificate from the Royal College of Surgeons in London, qualifying James Hazelwood to exercise the ‘Art and Science of Surgery’ and admitting him as member of the College, 1813 (in mount).
    Indenture permitting James Hazelwood to proceed to Port Saint George in the East Indies as a Surgeon and appointing him to be one of the Surgeons for the United Company of Merchants of England trading to the East Indies, 1814, for the term of five years (in mount).
