  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Alexander Popov, born of Russian parents in Shanghai in 1942, moved to Australia at the age of twelve. He graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 and, following studies and work in Europe, graduated in architecture from the Royal Danish Academy of Art in 1971. During his time in Europe he worked with several notable architects including Jørn Utzon and Henning Larsen. On his return to Australia in 1983 he set up Alex Popov Architects (later Alex Popov & Associates) in Sydney. In 2009 Brian Bass became co-director and partner in the company, renamed PopovBass. The company’s focus has been on designs for individual houses, medium-density housing, schools and commercial buildings.

Colin Bisset is a freelance writer and commentator on architecture and design. Born in the United Kingdom, he studied History of Art at the University of East Anglia, specialising in modern architecture. He is also a radio producer and presenter, working on projects for ABC Radio National.
