  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    George Frederick Jenkinson initially worked as a travelling photographer in Crystal Brook, Clare and Laura, South Australia. From 1898 to 1903 he was manager of the Areas Photographic Co. in Argent Street, Broken Hill, New South Wales. He later immigrated to New Zealand and died in there in 1925, aged 75.

    Various African American performance troupes visited Broken Hill between 1889 and 1899. The Hicks Sawyer Minstrels and the Friedman Minstrel Company performed in Broken Hill in 1889 and McAdoo’s Georgia Minstrels in 1899.
