  • Scope and Content
In this second interview, Richard Leplastrier describes the effect of family tragedy. He elaborates on the teachings of Masuda in Japan and then describes meeting musician Roger Benichou and travelling to a music festival in Persepolis, working as photographer for the wife of Iannis Xennakis. He describes returning to Australian after being away for five years and settting up his own practice in 1971, meeting his wife, Karen Lambert, and their children Aero, Mallee and Ek.
He gives some detail on various projects like Salbinda house in Church Point, Palm Garden House in Bilgola for David Walker, Bellingen House for Margo Hutchinson & Peter Carey, the Balmain house for Tom Uren, the Birabahn indigenous centre at Newcastle University. He also speaks about working for craftspeople like Henk Mulder, Jeff Broadfield & John Simpson, awards and medals, and why teaching and the sharing of ideas is so important. He stresses again the value of understanding landscape, and highlights the work of architect Rod Simpson, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Sydney Commission.
The interview concludes with comments about some of his students he continues to work with, including David Trevalla and photographer Leigh Woolley.
