    Typewritten notes by E. H. Wright and R. Hearns verso. "...Built of wood, copper fastened and coppered, by William Dunn, Berry's Bay, North Sydney, in 1883. is believed to have run Sydney-Hawkesbury River for an owner named Perdriau, until bough br Mr. E.H. Webb of Brisbane, for the Brisbane Steamship Co., later the Humpy Bong Steamship Co. Ltd. she arrived in Brisbane on 24 August 1884, and ran on the Brisbane to Woody Point & Redcliffe service for 16 years...In August 1900 the Garnet was replaced by a new and larger steamer, Emerald and left Brisbane for Sydney on Spetember 11, 1900. She was sold there to G.W. Watmore, and is believed to have run on a ferry service until sold on 5/9/04 to D.J. Williams, Newcastle. She was again sold on 18/12/11 to Buckle& Taylor Ltd., Newcastle; and yet again on 19/10/1923, to J. Rutley & W. Williams, Newcastle. Still in commision as a tug, she was destroyed by fire on 12/3/30, at Seaham, on the Williams River, N.S.W.. Her length o/all was 86', breadth 17' 4", and a depth of hold 6 ' 2". her engines were compound surface condensing by Plenty & Son, England, with cylinders 11" and 22" in diameter by 15" stroke, and she had one boiler. Her speed was about 10 knots..."
    An account of the fire was published in the Maitland Mercury, 14 March 1930 and typescript note is attached verso.
