    Anthony (Tony) Barker was an editor with the publisher John Ferguson when Hal Porter was asked to write a personal account of the Victorian town of Bairnsdale. This resulted in the publishing of Porter's book, Bairnsdale: Portrait of an Australian Country Town (1977). Tony Barker corresponded with Hal Porter throughout this project.
    Barker was as an editor with publishers Angus & Robertson from 1966-1973, and later worked as a freelance writer and editor.
