Edward Chapman and Co., merchants, underwriters, woolbrokers and insurance agents of 3 Bond Street, Sydney, began operation ca. 1861.

Mr. Edward Shirley Chapman was senior partner of Messrs. Edward Chapman and Co., founded by the late Mr. Edward Chapman. Previously Edward Chapman had belonged to the firm Rundle, Dangar and Co., merchants of Clarence Street and Queen's Square, Sydney, ca. 1854-ca. 1859. E.S. Chapman was probably one of the first insurance broking companies in Australia and was a leading agency manager, particularly in the marine area. In 1966 E.S. Chapman merged with Bailleu Insurances of which Mr Allan Butt was a partner. Mr Butt collected the material and saved it for eventual deposit.
