  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Edward Thomas Irving was born on 18 January 1867 in Lancashire, England, arriving in Australia on 15 August 1879. In May 1889, he helped establish the Professional Photographic Society in Sydney, and in September 1890, he commenced a photographic business on High Street, West Maitland. On 21 May 1893, he married Florence Winton Stone (1870-1957), with whom he had four children. By 1898, he had seemingly moved to Victoria, as he was mentioned as a photographer of Tungamah, Victoria, and from 1899 until 1910, his business was listed in Yarrawonga. By 1924, he had returned to New South Wales and was working in Muswellbrook. He requested a dismissal of his marriage to Florence on 6 March 1924 on the grounds of desertion, and was later recorded as having married A. Wiles in around 1914. By 1927, he was located in Taree where he died suddenly on 3 November 1929.
