The first formal ferry service on Sydney Harbour was started by James Milson junior and several colleagues in 1861. Milson’s service was known as the North Shore Ferry Company and ran ferries between Milson’s Point and Circular Quay. In 1886 a grand ferry arcade was constructed which dominated the Milsons Point area until 1924 when it was demolished to make way for the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
