The bushfire emergency that engulfed the Far South Coast of New South Wales on New Year's Eve 2019 was unprecedented in its speed and ferocity. Local Surf Lifesaving clubs, including Bermagui Surf Club, became evacuation centres - sheltering and providing food and supplies to thousands of people as bushfires raged out of control across the area. Photographer Andrew Worssam, who was holidaying with his family in the area at the time, photographed crowds gathering at Bermagui Surf club and beachfront, with cars, boats and vans clogging adjoining roads and parklands.

A collection of 12 digital photographs documenting the evacuations in Bermagui and Narooma during the 2019-2020 bushfires in New South Wales. Residents, tourists, and those from adjoining areas such as Narooma, began pouring into the Bermagui area whose population swelled from around 1500 to 5000.
