    George Najarian is an Armenian refugee from Aleppo, Syria. He is a public figure and advocate for refugees, launching two refugee scholarships, volunteering with organisations including Red Cross, Settlement Services International and Sydney Alliance. He is a speaker on the Refugee Council of Australia Face-to-Face program that aims to foster greater understanding of the refugee experience.

  • Scope and Content
    George Najarian speaks about his upbringing in Syria until the start of the war in 2011. He describes the impact of the war on his daily life and recounts his family's decision to flee to Beruit, Lebanon. Najarian talks about his family's attempts to move to Australia where they had relatives, and describes the application process as part of a humantarian program in 2017. He talks about the new experiences of living in Sydney, serving in the Armenian church and giving back to his community through volunteering and helping refugees settle in Australia. Najarian discusses in depth about his self identity as an Armenian/Syrian/Australian.
