  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Oscar Asche (1871-1936) was an Australian actor, director, and writer, best known for having written, directed, and acted in the record-breaking musical Chu Chin Chow, both on stage and film. He also acted in, directed and produced many Shakespeare plays and successful musicals.

    Formerly a successful American producer, J.C. Williamson was a successful Australian theatrical management company and theatre owner who dominated Australian commercial theatre in the twentieth century.

    ​Chu Chin Chow is a musical comedy based on the story of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves.
