  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    May Robson (1858-1942) was born Mary Jeanette Robison at Moama, New South Wales. In 1883 she began her career as a comedian and character actress, and in 1911 formed a touring theatrical company. From 1927 she had a later career, first in Hollywood silent movies and then in more than 50 films. In 1933, aged 75, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress as Apple Annie in 'Lady for a Day'. Robson died in 1942, aged 84, at Beverley Hills, California.
