  • Scope and Content
This collection comprises a detailed description of a 4-day bushwalk from 'Yerranderie to Kanangra Tops or Boyd Plateau via Christy’s Creek and Wallarra’, by Myles J. Dunphy, dated March 29th 1958. The document, in blue ballpoint, covers 16 pages and is written for ‘Bruce Loder and party’, Easter 1958.

The bushwalk follows the ‘Christy’s Creek route: Lannigan’s Creel (Colong Caves), Middle Kowmung River, Christy’s Creek, Badbury Cone, Wallarra Range, Barrallier’s Crown, East Wallarra, Dione Ridge, then either Rocky Top to Boyd Creek Bridge, or to Kanangra in the opposite direction’. In addition to comprehensive directions, the document includes recommendations for camp spots and scenic views (‘Here also lies Billy’s Basin, at the foot of this first cliff of the overlap, a very photogenic place between 3 and 5 p.m. on a sunny day’, p. 6). Dunphy also makes observations on wildlife: ‘It [Bulga Range] used to be a wonderful place for lyrebirds. Mrs D and I spent 3 weeks in this locality once, with our fox-terrier Dex; we went up the Main and East Christy’s, the Bulga-Denis Canyon, and along the Middle Kowmung generally. The highlight of this wild-life investigation was the lyrebirds. But some timber getters got amongst them later with shotguns: they shot everything – eagles, wallabies, kangaroos, lyrebirds, etc, and just left them lying where they shot them’, p. 8.
