  • General note

'Tarmons' was a manor house situated in Potts Point, New South Wales. Sir Maurice O'Connell, commander of the forces and lieutenant-governor of NSW, purchased the block on which it stood in 1838. In 1848 'Tarmons' was purchased by Sir Charles Nicholson, who sold it to the Sisters of Charity in 1855. They converted the building into St Vincent's Convent, and in 1857 St Vincent's Hospital was opened to outpatients. In 1870 the hospital was relocated to a new building in Victoria Street, Darlinghurst. In 1966 most of the old 'Tarmons' mansion was demolished to make way for the new convent, named 'Tarmons' after its predecessor.
