  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Arthur Gordon Benfield (1912-1988) learnt the art of designing and making stained glass from master John Radecki. Benfield was employed by Frank G. Obrien Pty Ltd and worked on several church buildings in New South Wales. At the State Library of New South Wales, he created the stained glass windows in the Shakespeare room and the Chaucer windows in the Mitchell Library Reading Room.

    This collection contains two folders of research material, compiled by Frederic Sinfield, that relate to Arthur Benfield. It includes a manuscript titled 'A. Benfield & His Times. A 20th Century Craftsman and an Artist' written by Sinfield, as well as photographs of his work, journal and newspaper articles, a birth certificate, business cards and other ephemera.
