The No Aircraft Noise Party was formed in 1995 as a political party in response to the opening of the third runway, and to fight the issue of noise generated by Sydney Airport. The Party also sought to encourage the construction of a new airport outside of Sydney, away from dense residential areas. In 1995, ten councillors were elected to five Sydney Councils. The Party changed its name to Common Cause - No Aircraft Noise in 1998 when the party broadened its platform to include employment, transport, and local government issues. However, due a decline in membership the party was deregistered by the Australian Electoral Commission in August 1999. No Aircraft Noise then functioned as a political lobby group that provided a regular newsletter, public meetings, media addresses, and voter advice at election times. The Party wound up on 30 June, 2021, after being successful in avoiding the closure of Sydney Airport's East-West runway, "to bring pressure on government to adopt the principal of fairly spreading the noise associated with Sydney Airport".
