• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  This self-portrait by Australian artist Peter Kingston (1943-2022) is a unique example of his work, combining several of his most used mediums -charcoal, pencil and wash on paper. It features areas of Lavender Bay and Luna Park near his home that are recurring motifs throughout his career and reflect his long association and advocacy for the heritage and history of the amusement park since the 1970s.
  
  These objects featured in the bottom third of the work also refer back to Kingston’s handmade wooden chess pieces, and his hidden miniature sculptures in the ‘Comic Walk’, an outdoor gallery alongside the harbour promenade just beyond Luna Park.
  
  This work was exhibited in Kingston’s exhibition 'On With The Show' held at Australian Galleries in Sydney from 28 April 2022 to 15 May 2022.

• Scope and Content
  A self portrait of Peter Kingston with his back to Sydney Harbour, a ferry with the Coney Island building and rides of Luna Park in the background, and an apartment building with crane featuring prominently in the foreground.
  
  The bottom third of the work contains monochrome illustrations of ride names and details from Luna Park, with the addition of several objects attached to the paper including figurines of resin and painted wood, and a matchbook.
