    Barbara Jane Baynton (1857-1929), writer, was born on 4 June 1857 at Scone, New South Wales. She was an Australian writer known for her short stories about life in the bush. She published the collection Bush Studies (1902) and the novel Human Toll (1907), as well as writing for The Bulletin and The Sydney Morning Herald.
