Dr Marie M. de Lepervanche is an anthropologist who taught at the University of Sydney for 30 years, her research interests including Australia’s immigration policy and structures of inequality in Australian society. Between 1968 and 1973 De Lepervanche carried out her doctoral field work among the Punjabi community of Woolgoolga in New South Wales. She retired from the University of Sydney as an associate professor in 1993, but has continued an association with Woolgoolga and its community.
