James Norris was a lifelong friend of Bruce Beaver.

Bruce Beaver (1928-2004) was an Australian poet, novelist and journalist. Born in Manly, a beach suburb of Sydney, he returned in the 1960s, spending the remainder of his life there. Over the course of this career, he won several major Australian literary awards, including the Grace Level Poetry Prize (1970), the C.J. Dennis Prize (1995), the Fellowship of Australian Writers Christopher Brennan Award (1982) and the Patrick White Award (1982). In 1991 he became a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his service to literature, particular in poetry.
