  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Bubby Allan (1917-2014) was born Theda Allan in Annandale and later known by her married name Bub Jewson.​​ Bubby was a child performer with the group ‘The Sunbeams', and in the 1930s along with her mother ran the Theda Allan School of Dancing in Newtown. Bubby worked as a solo vaudeville performer in the 1930s and 1940s, particularly with the Tivoli Circuit. For several years Bubby worked with George Wallace, one of the most prominent vaudeville performers of the time and along with her mother, lived at his farm at Eastern Creek. In 1949 Bubby married Leslie Jewson, and retired from show business.

    Folder of material from the 1920s and 30s which documents Bubby Allan’s career as a child performer and The Theda Allan School of Dancing. Contains photographs, programs and other documents.

    2 scrapbooks containing clippings and photographs. One documenting Allan’s early career and time with ‘The Sunbeams.’ The other documents her career c 1940-1950.

    2 mounted photographs of the Bondi Surf Club Ball on 29 April 1939. Allan choreographed a routine performed by lifesavers at this event.

    Folder of material documenting Allan’s career during the Second World War including her visit to perform in Japan in 1946. Includes fan letters from servicemen, a diary kept onboard the Kanimbla while travelling to Japan, correspondence, portraits from this period, photos collected in Japan, and photos documenting the trip to Japan.

    Folder of material relating to George Wallace including correspondence, clippings, photographs and other documents.

    Folder of Tivoli programs and other documents c 1940s-1950. Includes Allan’s script for playing Colin in the Little Red Riding Hood pantomime, 1950.
